First installation :

The Wallflower organic artwork is delivered with the necessary tools to :

  • Hang it up on the wall: to do this, fix the bracket (supplied with the user manual carton) to the wall in a horizontal position. The frame can be fixed onto the runners of this bracket (2 brackets are required for the medium size frame, 4 for the large size frame).
  • place it on a piece of furniture (table, office desk, cabinet). The same bracket can be clipped onto the back of the frame to stabilise the frame on 3 different heights (like a photo frame).Once you have found the ideal position for your frame, you will need to fill the water reserve, especially during the first two days, to allow for the pouch to rehydrate sufficiently. Thereafter, a signal located on the side of the frame will indicate when you need to replenish the water reserve. How often you will need to refill the reserve depends on the season, the exposure to light and the temperature of the surrounding interior space.

Caring for indoor plants :

The plant compositions in the Wallflower organic artworks are essentially indoor plants and require no more or less care and ideal conditions than normal indoor potplants :

LOTS OF LIGHT

  • No plant can live without light. Therefore you will need to place your Wallflower frame into an area with lots of natural daylight.

Important advice : In case you are planning on going away for a longer duration of time, remember to leave blinds or shutters open or move the Wallflower frame into a light area where there are no blinds, into a bathroom for example. A lack of water and irrigation can seriously damage the plants and can cause irreversible damage. In this case, it can still be possible to save the plants by laying the pouch flat and submerging the pouch in water for several minutes. ( Only submerge the plastic container at the back and not the frame itself) Then place the frame back in an upright position and fill the water reserve.

The temperature: MAINTAIN BETWEEN 15°C and 25°C/ DO NOT EXPOSE TO A SOURCE OF HEAT (airconditioning, heater, lightbulbs)

  • Most indoor plants can resist against the varying temperature of our apartments, but fear excess heating due to resulting dehydration.

The watering procedure: MAINTAIN THE WATER LEVEL IN THE RESERVE CONSTANTLY

  • The amount of times you will need to add water varies according to the surrounding temperature. However, it is important to regularly fill the water reserve and constantly ensure that there is water in the reserve.

Water level indicator
Behind each frame (if you look at the frame from the front, it is on the bottom left), an indicator shows the water level remaining in the reservoir :

water-reservoir-empty   1. when this is empty, two half moons appear: you need to fill the reservoir. water-reservoir-full   2. when it is sufficiently full, a complete circle appears: the plants do not need more water. Stop watering when you see the complete circle, or the water will overflow.

The indicator shows exactly whether water is needed or not. Don’t be surprised if you need to give water more often in the summertime or in case you have previously often forgotten to give water.

schema contre-indications

Notwithstanding the information provided above, the Wallflower organic artworks is a real indoor mini-garden, and as in all gardens, a plant can disappear for numerous reasons (lack of water, light, sickness). One can easily replace the missing plant or if need be, replace the entire composition.

The Wallflower system of culture is unique. Its concept is simple but it is important to understand it well in order to care optimally for its plants. The pouch of culture contains plants which have been selected according to their individual needs regarding water and light. These plants take root in a natural substrate, similar to the substrate used for pot plants. Therefore, the Wallflower organic artworks have the same needs as pot plants: constant irrigation, proper temperatures and therefore, the Wallflower plants are just as durable as indoor pot plants.

Only the way in which plants are watered changes. A network of cotton wicks weaves through the pouch and irrigates the plants by sucking up the water (by the same principal as an oil lamp). Therefore this is a system of vertical culture. Water moves through the pouch from the bottom to the top (and not from the top to the bottom like in traditional plant pots). In the Wallflower system, the wick pumps water into the pouch, the substrate diffuses the water towards the plants, directly to the root. The owner of the Wallflower frame therefore does not have to ensure that the rations of water are correct, nor be aware of the frequency with which to water. The only things he/ she needs to do is ensure that the water reserve is filled when the system so indicates: by means of the water signal.)
